We regret to inform you that the Craft Beer Half Marathon & 5 Miler will have to be cancelled for 2020. After careful consideration, consulting with the City of Charlotte, and taking the recommendations from the NCDHHS, and the CDC, we will not and could not hold an event this size. This is an unprecedented global public health issue and we must do our part to act responsibly. Our top priority is always the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, staff, and spectators. We are committed to organizing a safe and efficient event, and it is clear that it would be difficult to do at this time.
This is a challenging time for all of us and we realize this news comes as a disappointment to everyone. We absolutely LOVE this race. We’ve put in a ton of work over the last half of a year to make this a marquee running event in Charlotte. We love the course, the community involvement, the local brews, and the whole experience! As runners ourselves, we are very sad to be forced to cancel. We know you’ve been putting in a ton of time training and made many daily sacrifices to get to the start line. We get it! We live it too.
We’ve been working diligently to provide you some options with postponement to a later date in the year being the option we were hoping to accomplish. We all want to enjoy in the race we love so much. But after consulting with the City of Charlotte and CMPD, they are unable to accommodate us, so here are your two options.
NO COST | Run Virtually. You can still pick up your packets at our packet pick up locations at the original date and time. Swag included; shirt, custom bib, finisher medal, and pint glass and koozie for the half marathoners. We will be mailing, Half Marathon, and 5 Milers their packets within 2-3 weeks after the March 28 race date to those who live outside of Mecklenburg County. NO ACTION REQUIRED — You do not have to switch into the Virtual Run…everyone essentially becomes virtual.
NO COST | Defer your entry to 2021. To guarantee a spot into next years race since we typically sell out there is also an option to defer your entry into next year’s race for a fee based on your distance. You have until March 15, 2020, at 11:59PM to do so.
We will not be able to offer refunds per standard race policy and the race waiver.
We thank you for your support and your commitment to our running community. We really do appreciate you and hope to see you next year. We have no doubt we will be able to host another great event next year but in the meantime, keep running, stay healthy, be kind…we are all in this together and accept our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire Craft Beer Half Staff.
Are you still planning to host packet pick up on Thursday and Friday?
YES. All plans are proceeding with our packet pickup.
Can I defer to 2021?
YES. We have the option to defer for a fee and it will expire Sunday, March 15th. You can log into your www.runsignup.com account and go to MANAGE REGISTRATION. Click on DEFER
Can I run Virtually instead?
YES. Anyone who still wants to earn their swag and their bragging rights can run at their convenience. All runners in Mecklenburg County will still need to come to Packet Pick Up on Thursday or Friday to collect their swag but those outside of Mecklenburg County can get their items mailed to them at no cost. if you ordered Will Call, we will mail your packet to you as well at no additional cost. You can log into your www.runsignup.com account and go to MANAGE REGISTRATION. Click on SWITCH EVENT. More information on Virtual Runner HERE
Will you postpone the event?
NO. As of March 10, 2020 the City of Charlotte and CMPD informed us that they will not issue a permit to postpone the race to a later date in 2020.
Can I get a refund?
We have not changed our policy that we do not offer refunds. This policy is consistent with most races across the country and we encourage you to respect the refund policy and know that this situation is completely out of our control. The race incurred costs for medals, t-shirts, custom bibs, pint glasses, koozies, food, etc. based on registered runners.
Is there a risk to my health?
When you registered you signed the electronic waiver, you understand that there is always risk to participate in an event like this. We will take extra precaution noting COVID-19. We encourage people with compromised immune systems, current illness, parents with infants/toddlers, and the very elderly with health issues to consider staying home if they registered for an event, as those are the populations that appear to be susceptible to the dangers of the virus. If you are feeling ill or have flu-like symptoms, please do not show up.
You can help prevent the spread of infectious illness
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases including:
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
3. Stay home when you are sick.
4. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
5. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
6. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
